COLLEGE PROFILE

Annai Veilankanni’s College of Education is managed by Annai Veilankanni’s Educational and Cultural Society. It was founded by Dr.S.Devaraj in the year 2008. The College of Education came into existence due to his tireless mission and foresighted vision. The college was granted approval and recognition by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on 20.02.2008 (Lt.No.18085) The formal affiliation to TamilNadu Teachers Education University was obtained on 29.09.2008. NCTE has enhanced the duration of the B.Ed course to two academic years from 2015-2016. The college has been given due approval by NCTE for a B.Ed, intake of 100 students (Two Units) from 2015-2016. The motto of the college is “ Endeavour to enlighten” The College of Education is known as much for its academic standing and leadership building as it is for social commitment. Besides, the unseen touch of the Almighty has always been felt and spoken by generations of student teachers.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION

• To provide teacher training to deserving students, more particularly to the poorer and marginalized sections of the society.
• To train Teachers to be leaders of quality in all walks of life and serve their wards in scholastic skills in addition to imparting justice, truth, and love.
• To focus on the first-generation learners, to build them, and to make them come up in life.
• To foster an atmosphere of intellectual vigor and moral rectitude in which young men and women may find fulfillment and achieve greatness.
• To produce intellectually enlightened, spiritually inspired, emotionally balanced, morally upright, and socially committed prospective teachers.

General Rules and Regulations

  1. Students are expected to maintain a very high order of discipline.
  2. Students are expected to be clean, smart, and respectable in dress and appearance.
  3. Students shall be punctual and regular in attendance. They shall be in their seats five minutes before the commencement of work both in the forenoon and afternoon. No latecomer shall enter the lecture hall without the permission of the lecturer.
  4. No student shall leave the lecture hall without the permission of the lecturer.
  5. Students shall rise when a lecturer enters the classroom and remain standing till they are directed to sit.
  6. The College properties should be handled with maximum care and everything possible should be done to preserve the cleanliness and tidiness of the building and furniture. Students are forbidden to displace the furniture of the college. Any damage will be charged accordingly.
  7. Students shall not loiter about on the veranda. They are expected to be in the reading room during periods in which they are free. Discipline must be maintained in the library, lecture halls, and college campus.
  8. Unsatisfactory conduct and character would result in the termination of the students concerned.
  9. Students are strictly forbidden to engage themselves in any political or other movements.
  10. Use of cell phones within the college campus is strictly prohibited.

Attendance and Leave Rules.

  1. All applications for leave should be submitted in the prescribed form to the principal a day before it is required, except in case of sudden illness or casualties.
  2. Casual leave may be granted amounting to not more than 3 days at a time exclusive of Sundays and other holidays. The period of absence at any time shall not exceed 10 days in a year.
  3. Absence without leave is not permissible.   In the case where absence without leave is an unavoidable application for leave must be submitted immediately.
  4. Absence with leave for a part of the day or absence without leave for a full day will be treated as absent for one and two days respectively.
  5. A student who does not respond to the roll call will be marked absent.
  6. If a student absents himself/herself for five consecutive working days without applying for leave his/her name will be removed from the roll of the college.
  7. Necessary attendance certificate will be issued only when he/she has attended at least 85 percent of working days in the academic year.

Library Work and Rules

Students are expected to make the best use of the College library students are required to be in the library during library hours and whenever they have no classes.

  1. The library will be kept open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm on all working days.
  2. Strict silence is to be observed within the library.
  3. No photocopying of books will be allowed.
  4. No student shall write upon, damage, or make any mark upon a journal of a book belonging to the library.
  5. Open access is provided in the library.
  6. The borrowed books should be returned before 10.00 am. everyday.
  7. Not more than two books to students will be issued at a time.
  8. Borrowers are responsible for the loss or damage of books as long as they are in their custody. The date slip and the number label should not be tampered. Serious action shall be taken in case of violation and if any book is found soiled or damaged, the borrowers shall be required to replace the book with a fine, or pay the compensation as may be fixed by the principal.
  9. Borrowers on receiving books are expected to examine them before they leave the library and report any damages to the librarian immediately.
  10. Books taken from the library should not be retained by any student for more than 7 days, but they may be renewed for a further period of 5 days on request.
  11. Books borrowed at the commencement of a vacation exceeding 7 days should be returned on the day immediately after the vacation.
  12. A fine of Rupees five per day book will be levied for delay in returning the books.
  1. Fines will be collected before issuing the Hall ticket for the Final Examination.
  2. Reference books, bound volumes of periodicals, and bound copies of University Examination question papers shall not be let out.
  3. Borrowers shall on no account sub lend books to others.
  4. Absence from the college shall not be an excuse for any delay in returning books. Books due on a holiday shall be returned on the next working day.
  5. The librarian may recall any book at any time even if the normal period of loan has not been expired.
  6. No reading material shall be removed from its place in the reading room without the knowledge of the librarian.
  7. Members are required to handle all magazines and journals with care.
  8. Visitors are requested to sign in the register at the time of entry into the library.
  9. The maximum number of books that a teacher can borrow from the library is five and the loan period is 15 days.

SCHOOL INTERNSHIP

School Internship would be a part of the broad curricular area of ‘Engagement with the Field’ and shall be designed to lead to the development of perspectives, professional capacities, teacher sensibilities, and skills. The curriculum of B.Ed shall provide for sustained engaging in continuous and comprehensive assessment for learning), thereby creating a conducive environment in the schools in the neighborhood throughout the year.  Student teachers shall be equipped to cater to diverse needs of learners in schools. These activities shall be organized for 4 weeks in the first year of the course.

Students are to be actively engaged in teaching for 16 weeks in the final year of the course. They shall be engaged at two levels, namely, upper primary (classes VI-VIII) and secondary, with at least 16 weeks in secondary / senior secondary classes. They should be provided opportunities to teach in schools with systematic supervisory support and feedback from faculty.

The students should make themselves, thoroughly, acquainted with the whole school plan, Curriculum, and programme of work and the weekly and daily time tables. They should be eager to learn from the subject teachers to whom they are apprenticed and be ready to assume responsibilities when asked.

Students may be asked to help in any form or routine school work, such as maintaining registers, correcting exercise, compiling records, substituting for absentee teachers, supervising games, conducting co/curricular activities, etc. They should seek advice from the Headmistress, teachers, and their supervisors and endeavor to give the highest possible satisfaction.

Each student is under the direct control of the Head of the Institution during the internship.

A separate attendance register will be maintained in each school. Student – teachers should sign before the beginning of the morning and afternoon sessions. Punctuality is of great importance.

No leave may be taken during the period of school internship. In serious emergencies, the principal of the college and the Head of the School must be immediately informed and the reasons made explicit in writing. In case of sickness, a medical certificate must be furnished. Days lost must be made up.
